High art this ain’t, but there was a chance that this movie could be good, pulpy fun. I was in the mood to turn-off my brain, and the flick is now free on Netflix, so I gave it a whirl.

There are hints that the filmmakers don’t take it all totally seriously, but honestly they just don’t take the concept far enough for it play as intentional. Along the same lines, there are elements of real creativity in the production design, but nothing is pushed enough to really stand-out. Most of the production is of the typical high quality, but bland, b-movie variety so prevalent in Hollywood. The practical creature effects for Edward the Troll are a notable exception.
